Laboratorium (Лабораториум)

Skopje, Macedonia, the Former Yugoslav Republic of

Laboratorium began by recognising the need for space, support and collaboration among young people in Skopje. It is a place for experimenting, learning, sharing and strengthening the local community. Since its founding in December 2024, Laboratorium has organised over 180 events, workshops, exhibitions, concerts and educational seminars with the support of more than 80 organisations active in the cultural and civil-society sectors.

A core strand of Laboratorium’s philosophy, pursued since the opening of the space, is support for social and community-driven projects organised directly or in cooperation with partner organisations and carried out by all generations. This ensures the space remains accessible to those working towards positive change. This strand is largely based on an incubator model, involving events and initiatives that aim to improve the cultural and social environment—especially for young people—and engage them in activities that lead to a better future for everyone.

The third pillar, initiated with the opening of LabDesignMarket, focuses on reviving fading crafts and artisanal work. Through the design and craft community it has gathered, Laboratorium seeks to revitalise these professions, make them attractive to young people, and offer direct-selling services.
