About The Door Albania
The Door was founded in 1996 in Shkodër, in northern Albania, with the support of the Norwegian organisation Norsk Nødhjelp. In 2007, the initiative was formally re-registered as a local non-profit organisation.
The organisation is dedicated to promoting social inclusion and community development, with a strong focus on increasing the participation of children and young people from marginalised groups. This includes youth with disabilities, residents of social care institutions, and young people from rural or underserved communities.
Through its work, The Door encourages active engagement in socio-cultural, educational, and artistic activities, creating safe and inclusive spaces where young people can develop their skills, express creativity, and strengthen their sense of belonging.
Over the years, The Door has played an important role in the cultural and social life of the Shkodër region by organising annual events, youth projects, artistic initiatives, and community-based activities. These initiatives provide opportunities for young people from Albania and neighbouring countries to meet, collaborate, and learn from each other.
Today, The Door continues to expand its impact and is actively seeking to build partnerships with other NGOs and cultural organisations across the region. Through collaboration, the organisation aims to promote art, culture, and creative expression as powerful tools for social inclusion, intercultural dialogue, and youth empowerment.
