A Vértes Agorája

Tatabánya, Hungary

A Vértes Agorája – as a division of Agora Nonprofit Ltd. – is a local centre for culture and education, aiming to develop and organise the cultural life of the local community of the city of Tatabánya, respecting and preserving traditions and promoting innovation. Tatabánya is a diverse and multicultural city, and the centre has a strong respect for the local identity, values and characteristics of the different communities. Indeed, one of their fundamental missions is "community development" on thematic base in respect of age groups, supporting and reinforcing active communities. In this framework, they aim to create new traditions by establishing alternative community development trends. They also play an essential role in organising events such as concerts, exhibitions, workshops, talent spotting events, career fairs. A Vértes Agorája is both a city and a local network of cultural centres: 4 smaller and quite autonomous cultural centres of the city are under the management of their main cultural centre; and the centre also runs a council of cultural centres for nine villages around Tatabánya, and supports them technically and professionally.
