DKC Kino

Socio-cultural centre Kino

Sv. Filip I Jakov, Croatia

Kino is a socio-cultural centre in Sveti Filip i Jakov, a village on the Croatian coast. It was founded as a result of the K.IN.O. project, financed by the European Social Fund and the Croatian Ministry of Culture (2018-2020), which transformed a former local cinema into a cultural centre. It is the first socio-cultural centre managed through a civil-public partnership in a rural region of Croatia. Kino is coordinated by a body gathering representatives from the municipality of Sveti Filip i Jakov (which owns the building) and from the KINO platform (which manages the cultural centre). This platform consists of members of the civil society sector and the local community (6 NGOs, 37 individual members and 2 coordinators) that are active beneficiaries and co-creators of the DKC Kino.

Our centre is a new but very active and diverse organisation, which provides many programmes and activities for the local community such as a photo club, concerts, workshops, informal meetings, capacity building seminars, film screenings, a cinematheque, a volunteering platform, funding of projects organised by children and youth from the local community, and a book-swapping zone. A meeting point called 'Tinel' (living room) is open to the local community three hours a day. In this cosy and well-equipped space, local citizens can meet to talk, play games, listen to music, read books, use equipment and help themselves to refreshments in the club café.
